The Atlanta Art of Boxing Center was founded by the former Welter Weight Professional prize fighter Johnny Gant. Gant is a native of Washington DC, where he fought as a welterweight from 1968-1980. During his prime Johnny was ranked #2 in the world and is one of the most celebrated boxers from Washington, DC. He fought for a world title against Angelo Espada in 1975 and lost the decision.

Johnny has been working with the youth for most of his adult life. He work with DC Government as a youth counselor helping at- risk youth and he worked as a community advisor with the OSAY program in Washington, DC. Johnny understands how difficult it is to be a youth with peer pressure and a sense of invincibility, however, he also knows that having alternatives from the streets is the only true means of survival.
